From the time I spent hiking in Alaska quite a while ago. I think these pics were taken on a Razor flip phone. I saw a lot of moose, and heard a Griz. Thankfully nothing tried to eat me.

Whereabouts in Alaska? All of the trip posts make me want to pack up and head up there for a month. Went through a few cities on a cruise when I was younger but.... Definitely not the same.
When I was backpacking Mt. Rainier last summer the signs all said to yell and wave your arms like a crazy person if a bear spotted you. About three days in, The only bear I saw on that trip stopped, looked at me like I was nuts, then turned around and walked off on his hind legs. Strange experience.

Well, most, is such a great word. My dad is from MT, Beartooth Mtns actually! Brown bears of all types can run much faster than you and break branches off a tree climbing a tree faster than you. I guess playing dead is a less risky option but bear spray is what I would carry. I mean you can shoot one and it will keep coming unless you are lucky, bullet can ricochet off its noggin. They don’t like fire/flares. I grew up thinking camping was arming everyone e to the teeth and setting up a tent with a wood stove in the mountains with nobody around for a long way. I saw KOA later and just couldn’t believe people camp in a dirt parking lot next to other people. No thanks!

It was the Axe body spray.

Yep, bear spray is a must in Griz land. I just watched a short doc where this group went camping in far northern Canada and were shocked when a polar bear attacked them. I don’t know if there is anything outside of a 30.06 that can phase a polar bear, but they wemt into the middle of starving polar bear country without a goddamn thing.

Those pics were taken near Anchorage. Alaska is amazing. So much untouched wilderness.

My grandma used to carry a rifle walking in the forest with the dogs. But she couldn’t carry it anymore and my dad made her carry a bear spray.
